Dogs Trust's oldest resident finds loving retirement home with Observer reader

AN ELDERLY dog has found a retirement home with a kind-hearted Observer reader.

Labrador cross Jamie is 14-years-old – the human equivalent of 98 – and took the accolade of Dogs Trust Kenilworth’s oldest resident.

But after appearing in the pages of The Observer looking for a new owner, he captured the heart of Ann Kewi from Kenilworth.

She was one of a handful of people who contacted the centre after reading about the elderly pup.

And staff are delighted he has gone to a loving home where he can spend his retirement.

A spokeswoman from the centre said: “Jamie is a lovely boy and we were really eager to find him a new forever home as soon as possible so he could enjoy his home comforts again.

“Thankfully, his new owner saw our appeal in the local paper and fell in love with him. We know he’ll be very happy with Ann who will make sure he has everything he could hope for in his twilight years.”

The rehoming centre still has around 20 mature dogs over the age of eight and are keen to encourage people to consider the advantages of owning an older dog which include less walking and that they are already house trained.

Visit the centre in Honiley or visit www.dogstrust.org.uk to find out more.
