Traffic restrictions on Solihull commuter route as 'experiment' for second phase of Sprint bus route begins

TRAFFIC restrictions have been put in place along Hobs Moat Road to plan for future roadworks.

Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) has set up a Traffic Management Experiment to run until May 10 as plans for phase two of the Sprint bus route gets under way.

Sprint is a bus priority corridor that will link Solihull with Birmingham city centre, north Birmingham and Walsall along one continuous route using the A45 Coventry Road and the A34 Walsall/Birmingham Road.

Phase one of Sprint was completed in Solihull in 2022 with local bus services now benefitting from more reliable, regular and predictable journey times.

Phase Two of the scheme includes highway changes along Hobs Moat Road to provide a bus lane between Melton Avenue and Old Lode Lane – towards the Wheatsheaf junction – as well as a new pedestrian crossing and upgraded bus stops.

In a letter to residents TfWM said: “Before fully implementing this aspect of the scheme, we will be undertaking a temporary experimental trial on Hobs Moat Road.

“This will involve using traffic management including cones, barriers and signs to recreate the Sprint layout on Hobs Moat Road allowing us to understand how the scheme will change traffic movements in the area.

“The Hobs Moat Road/Old Lode Lane (towards Chelmsley Wood) bus stop will be suspended for the duration of the experiment with a temporary stop provided close by.

“All properties and public footways will be accessible throughout the duration of the experiment and monitored at all times.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”
