Brave Spencer does it again

Solihull Editorial 17th Sep, 2021   0

MINUTES after receiving a national bravery award for saving 12 people from a fire in Birmingham, PC Spencer Lunn was presented with another.

Spencer was one of four of our people presented with a certificate from the Royal Humane Society for saving the life of a woman who had been hit by a train.

On 18 December 2019, staff member Dave Raymond and PCs Spencer Lunn, Paul Dempsey and Michael Henry, received a report that a woman had been hit by a train near Berkswell railway station, Solihull.

Michael and Dave were the first on the scene and found the woman lying on the tracks with a severed lower leg.

Michael had the power switched off and trains stopped, while Dave started first aid on the woman.

He was quickly joined by Spencer and Paul who used his belt to make a tourniquet to try stop the bleeding.

All four treated the woman until paramedics arrived and continued to help, right up until the she arrived at hospital.

Our Deputy Chief Constable, Vanessa Jardine presented them with their certificates on behalf of the society at a special ceremony last Thursday (9 September).
