MEMBERS of the Solihull Women’s Institute celebrated the 95th anniversary since the group’s first ever meeting.

Over 50 members turned out for the afternoon celebrations at the Solihull W.I’s base on Warwick Road.

Currently there are 75 members and member Jill Campbell was delighted with the turnout and encouraged potential new members to sign up.

With celebrations taking place up and down the land with regards to the National Federation of Women’s Institutes celebrating their 100th birthday, Jill has noticed an increase in support for the Solihull W.I.

She added: “We have speakers, lunches and summer outings throughout the year and our 95th anniversary was a day that we had been planning for a while.

“The Solihull W.I has a fantastic history and to celebrate the 95th anniversary was great fun – everyone got involved and we all enjoyed the afternoon.”

The group, which meets every Tuesday, is looking to attract new members – and Jill is keen to welcome anyone from anywhere.

She added: “We have members aged from 60 up until 90.

“We’re all great friends and have various activities on different weeks ranging from members meetings to guest speakers – I’m certainly very proud to be a member of the Solihull W.I.”
