KIND-HEARTED pupils, parents and staff at a Solihull primary school have been thanked for their unwavering support to help children in Sri Lanka.

The children at Peterbrook Primary school have sent boxes of gifts and stationery to their schools for the past 16 years.

With the help of headteachers across the years, including the incumbent Lindsey Thornton, the Shirley have raised funds through non uniform days, sent shoe boxes with filled gifts, donated books from their school library to help the children in Sri Lankan schools to get essential learning tools they need to help with their studies.

The schools have also exchanged Christmas cards each year.

Shiromani Gunawardene, a former pupil at Peterbrook School who runs the partnership, said: “I have been in connection with Peterbrook Primary School in Solihull for many years now and I am so grateful for all of their efforts, support and contributions to my organisation in helping Sri Lankan children’s education and further support.

“In recent years, the Covid pandemic has affected many countries all over the world, but unfortunately put the children in Sri Lanka at greater risk of lack of education due to decrease of fuel availability, electricity and food shortages, all of which are keeping children out of school.

“This is why I am so incredibly grateful to have the endless support of Peterbrook School now more than ever.”
