BALSALL Common strongman Paddy Doyle has broken the world record for most fitness endurance records in one year to be crowned Champion of Champions at a special event hosted by the Berkswell Royal British Legion Club.

Carrying a 60lb back pack, Paddy completed a 10 mile cross country speed march, a 30 metre shuttle sprints and finished with 155 step ups on a 15 inch bench carrying a 40lb pack – completing the feat in two hours and 51 minutes on one of the hottest days of the year.

These final efforts means Paddy has completed 139 speed, strength and stamina challenges in one year – beating former record holder, British athlete Steve Butler, by 28 challenges.

The Royal British Legion Club in Berkswell village hosted Paddy’s final challenges last Saturday, with locals and supporters cheering him on.

As well as being named the Champion of Champions, Paddy also achieved his 500th record of his career and will be the only and first British Endurance Athlete who will achieve the most career sporting achievements in five different sporting disciplines – cycling, running, martial arts, boxing and mountaineering.

Speaking after completing his record attempt, the part-time public services lecturer and a fitness instructor said: “It has been a hard tough title record to beat, I have been carrying injuries from one physical fitness challenge to the next I was feeling drained on my last event but my team and supporters pushed me all the way to the last second.”

Paddy has previously served in the Army’s Parachute Regiment for over two years and the RAF Reserves for five.

When he left the armed forces, he was given a helping hand by the Royal British Legion – helping him transition back into civilian life and providing him with financial assistance to obtain a BTEC to improve his employment prospects.

His previous world record attempts have therefore also raised awareness and funds for the Legion’s work with the Armed Forces community.
