PUPILS at Langley School have been given an insight into the House of Lords.

As part of the Peers in Schools Programme, Lord Jeffery Rooker of Perry Barr visited the school and spoke about his role.

The former minister of state at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, spoke about the work of the House of Lords, and answered questions on his work.

The audience, made up of pupils on the school council asked questions various aspects of the parliamentary process and life at the Houses of Parliament generally.

Clare Thorpe, assistant headteacher, said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to interact with someone who knows the parliamentary system inside out, as it can sometimes seem far removed from their daily lives, but today they have had a thorough insight into the workings of Westminster.”
