Children's Hospital boost thanks to fundraiser Danny Ryan and borough pub

A DEDICATED West Midlands fundraiser has received the support of a borough pub to help raise funds for Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Danny Ryan MBE has been fundraising for 29 years and in that time has donated £2.7million to various charities across the Midlands to help with a variety of projects.

His latest mission is to raise £40,000 to help fund two lifechanging state-of-the-art incubator beds for the hospital’s neonatal unit.

The 59-year-old, who is an ambassador for the hospital, received a boost when borough pub The Sharman’s Cross donated £1,000 to the fundraiser’s cause.

The Shirley-based pub hosted various events to raise the four-figure sum including quizes, karaoke.

Danny said: “The hospital are looking for a new incubator bed, each one costing £20,000.

“When I launched the appeal I decided it would better to try and raise funds to buy two.

“A friend of mine had a child born in the neonatal unit and I saw some of the wonderful work which goes on.

“I cannot thank the Sharmans Cross Pub enough – the customers, staff and owners have been so helpful.

“A lot of my fundraising efforts have taken place in pubs across the region, so to have the support of the Sharmans Cross has provided me with a great boost in reaching that final target.”

Luke Billingsley, manager at the Sharmans Cross pub, said: “Danny has a high profile in the area so we all rallied to help his cause.

“Birmingham Children’s Hospital is local to everyone in Solihull and you never know when you might need help from them.

“We’ve ran various events to help raise the cash and the support we’ve received from the community has been tremendous.”

Annie Eytle, acting events and regional fundraising manager at Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity, said: “We would like to say a massive thank you to the Sharmans Cross Pub for supporting Danny’s fundraising mission.

“Danny’s support over the years has been phenomenal and his commitment to our charity has truly blown us away.

“The money he hopes to raise towards two new incubator beds will make a big difference to the lives of our brave children and their families treated on our neonatal ward.”
