Here at Blossomfield, we are at the cutting edge of dental technology, proudly being one of the first general dental practices in Solihull to offer 3D-printed, same-day smiles. We started using digital printing in March of last year, and this innovation allows us to provide faster, more precise, and more comfortable treatments, ensuring our patients receive world-class care with the latest advancements in dentistry.
The 3D Printer & Its Capabilities
We use a state-of-the-art dental 3D printer, allowing us to create high-precision dental restorations, such as crowns, bridges, and dentures, in-house and on the same day. This means:
- Faster turnaround times – no need to wait weeks for lab work
- More precise, custom-fit restorations – improved patient comfort
The Same-Day Crown Process: From Start to Finish
1. Patient Consultation & Preparation
- The patient arrives with a damaged or decayed tooth requiring a crown.
- The dentist prepares the tooth by removing any decay and shaping it for the crown.
2. Digital Scanning – No Messy Impressions!
- Instead of traditional putty impressions, we use an intraoral scanner to capture a highly detailed 3D image of the tooth and surrounding bite.
- This digital scan is instantly uploaded to our design software.
3. CAD Design – Precision at Its Best
- Using computer-aided design (CAD) software, we can design the perfect custom crown, ensuring a precise fit and natural aesthetics.
4. 3D Printing – Bringing the Crown to Life
- The design is sent to our 3D printer, which fabricates the crown layer by layer using high-quality dental resin.
- The printing process takes approximately 15-30 minutes, followed by curing and final polishing.
5. Same-Day Crown Fitting & Bonding
- Once ready, the dentist checks the fit and makes any necessary adjustments.
- The final crown is bonded securely onto the tooth, and the patient leaves with a fully restored smile—all in a single visit!
The Future of Dentistry
The introduction of 3D printing in dentistry marks a major shift towards a faster, more precise, and patient-friendly approach to dental care. Here’s why it’s changing the industry:
- Speed & Convenience – Traditional lab-made crowns require multiple visits, but 3D printing enables same-day restorations, eliminating long wait times.
- Unmatched Precision – Digital scanning and CAD software ensure a perfect fit, reducing errors and adjustments.
- Improved Patient Comfort – No more messy impressions or temporary crowns—patients receive a final, high-quality restoration in just one appointment.
- Sustainability – In-house 3D printing reduces waste and our carbon footprint compared to outsourcing to a dental lab.
As dentistry continues to evolve, digital workflows and 3D printing will become the new standard, providing patients with quicker, more comfortable, and highly personalised dental care. At Blossomfield, we are proud to be at the forefront of this transformation, bringing the future of dentistry to Solihull today.
We would also be delighted to welcome you to Blossomfield to see this process in action and experience our digital workflow firsthand.
