THE A45 will be reduced to single lanes under the Fillongley Bridge in Meriden to ‘undertake monitoring investigations into the bridge structure’.
The traffic measures will be in place on Monday October 16 from 9.30am until 9pm.
The bridge, built in 1958, has had nearly 60 years of constant, heavy use and it now needs extensive maintenance or replacement, the council says.
A Solihull council spokesperson, said: An inspection of the bridge was carried out in November 2014 and a structural assessment carried out in 2016.
“These identified that essential major maintenance works were required in order to extend the life of the bridge. These latest investigations are to determine the extent of works required.
“The council understands these investigation works will impact on traffic on the A45 and we apologise for any inconvenience caused. Unfortunately, the investigations require daylight and following consultation with stakeholders this is the best date for the investigations to be done.
“Once these are complete, the council will be in a position to make a decision on the future of the bridge.”
