A YOUNGSTER from Balsall Common will be shaving her hair off to raise funds for Little Princess Trust.
Sophia Metcalfe, aged four, has already managed to hit the £400 mark in her attempt to reach £500 and is receiving full support from her parents and the local community.
Little Princess Trust provide real hair wigs, free of charge, to boys and girls across the UK and Ireland who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment.
Sophia, who attends reception at Balsall Common Primary School, is following in the footsteps of her proud mother – Emma – who completed a charity skydive several months ago and has competed in various fun runs.
Emma said: “We’re looking to shave her hair off in October time but are yet to set an official date yet.
“We’re looking to do this as an event and are hoping to secure the backing of our local pub to help provide the setting for the big day.
“It’s amazing that my little girl is doing such a selfless act of kindness to help others – I’m not sure she understood at first what was happening but she’s grasped the concept now.”
In addition to providing wigs, which costs in the region of £350 each, the charity also assists children with various other conditions that result in hair loss – the most common being Alopecia.
It appears fundraising is in the families blood as mother of two Emma stated how proud she was of her girl.
She added: “I’ve done charity events before so it’s nice that Sophia is following in my footsteps.
“She has a great personality and when she has her hair all cut off and donates the money I’ll be one very proud mum.”
