Yardley crash to three-goal home loss

HOCKEY: YARDLEY crashed to a three-goal loss at home to Leamington in their latest MRHA West Midlands Division One contest.

Leamington set a quick early pace and Yardley struggled to find an answer from the start.

Neal Makepeace was forced into a host of first-half saves as Yardley’s defence weathered the early storm.

Though the quantity of attacks faded, Leamington did manage to grab a goal before half time when a pass from the right wing wasn’t cleared as the visiting side took the lead before half time.

Further pressure in the opening moments of the second half saw Yardley forced onto the back foot as Leamington missed several chances.

Yardley then had the chance to equalise when skipper Zach Jarvis charged down the left flank before Kyle Francis’ attempt on goal was smothered by Spa’s defence.

Leamington doubled their lead when a cross into the D wasn’t cleared before Yardley found themselves three goals behind when Spa netted from close range.

Yardley are next in action this weekend against Wednesbury.
