Valiant Solihull Barons beaten in play-offs

TC CARS Solihull Barons rounded off their National League campaign with defeat to Sheffield Steeldogs over two-legs in the play-off semi-finals at the weekend.

Few were disheartened in a campaign which saw the Barons lose seven of their first ten games before picking up momentum to see Solihull ultimately emerge as one of the best traditional national league sides in the country.

On Saturday the Barons hosted league champions and play-off top seeds Steeldogs at the Solihull rink in front of a large home and travelling support.

In an incredibly competitive tie the two sides battled hard for the full 60 minutes with little to separate them and with never more than a single goal in it.

By the final buzzer it was the visitors who took a modest 4-3 advantage back to their own rink on Sunday.

Scorers for the Barons were Adam Brittle, Luke Brittle and Tom Soar.

On Sunday the two sides reconvened at Ice Sheffield and, while the Barons battled hard and gave it their all, the large ice and the strong Steeldogs side were just that little too much to handle.

The 5-2 scoreline in favour of the Yorkshire side somewhat flattered them, however, with the Barons’ efforts clearly shown as they out-shot the home side.

Soar and Andy Whitehouse were the scorers for Barons.

Barons will return to the ice with some pre-season warm-up games in August.
