TRANSFER - Versatile Jones becomes Moors third summer signing

SOLIHULL Moors have completed their third signing of the summer with the addition of Joey Jones on a one-year deal.

The versatile 28-year-old is primarily a midfielder but can also play as a defender and recently departed Dagenham and Redbridge.

He spent the final two months of last season on loan with Promotion Final winners Grimsby Town.

Jones said: “I’m really pleased to be here, Solihull were unlucky not to go up last season and I want to push to get this club promoted.

“I’ve known the gaffer for quite a few years, so he played a massive role in me coming here.

“I like to get on the ball and play in a team who play good football, which is another reason why I came here.”

Manager Neal Ardley added: “After losing Lois Maynard last season and with us not carrying a huge squad, we wanted to sign a player who could play similar to Lois at centre back and centre midfield.

“Joey is someone I looked at signing before at Notts County and I also had him training with me at Wimbledon.

“He fits the bill perfectly for the way we play and will be a very important squad member.”

After progressing through the academy systems at Arsenal and Leicester City, Jones signed for then Championship side Yeovil Town in 2013.

He then joined Woking and made over 190 appearances before making the move to Eastleigh in 2018, where Jones played a key role in the Spitfires’ run to the play-offs.

A former Northern Ireland under-21 international, Jones caught the attention of Salford City following their promotion to the Football League.

He made a total of 27 appearances for the Ammies before signing for Dagenham and Redbridge in November 2020.
