GUS Mafuta has joined Solihull Moors on a free transfer, becoming the club’s fifth summer signing ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

Mafuta has signed a two-year deal following the expiration of his contract at National League rivals York City.

The defensive midfielder has also played for Hartlepool United, Salford City and Boreham Wood and helped Salford reach the Football League in 2018/19.

Mafuta said: “I’m glad to get it signed, It’s been in the pipeline for a few weeks now and I’m happy that it’s all sorted now.

“I’ve been an admirer of the club from a distance, a good friend Adam Rooney spoke very highly of the club, it’s a club that his interested me quite a bit and it’s a good location for my family.

“I try to be box-to-box, I can sit if needed, I’m quite aggressive in my play, I like to break things up and get the team playing.

“I love competing, that’s one thing that we’ll look to do this year, hopefully we’re competing at the right end of the table.”

Moors’ head of recruitment, Joe Taylor added: “Gus is a player we’ve liked for some time, he brings a physicality and robustness that we maybe lacked at times last year.

“He is extremely experienced at this level and brings the discipline, athleticism and the know how in that position.”

Solihull’s assistant manager, James Quinn, said: “He’s something different to what we’ve already got in the building, he’s a physical presence and good in the air but he’s also very good technically.

“He’s a player that we’ve known about for a while and admired, he’ll offer something different on the pitch.”
