SUPERBIKES - Technical issues hamper Delves at Oulton Park

Solihull Editorial 4th May, 2023   0

IT WAS a round to forget for Solihull’s Liam Delves at Oulton Park as technical problems hampered the young rider’s weekend in round two of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship.

Delves was only able to complete a handful of laps in free practice and qualified in 27th for the start of the sprint race.

And Delves overtook former TT winner Michael Dunlop in a promising start only for his bike to run into problems which forced him to retire the Rapid Training Rapid CDH Racing Kawasaki.

He began the second race in 22nd, the eighth row of the grid, but eventually worked his way up to 18th to secure a credible top-20 finish which proved to be the highlight of his weekend.

The technical problems that plagued his practice sessions returned in the final race with Delves forced to retire at the end of lap nine.

Delves said: “After completing race two in 18th place and fighting the mid-pack for position I moved up another grid position for race three.

“Unfortunately, I was hit with another dreaded technical issue holding me back at the start of the race then forcing me to retire.

“I will go away, regroup and pray for better luck before my next race at Donington Park in three weeks’ time, thank you to all my personal sponsors for their continued support.”

The next round of the Championship takes place at Donington Park over the weekend of May 19 to 21.
