SUPERBIKES - Delves finishes season in style

Solihull Editorial 19th Oct, 2022   0

LIAM Delves wrapped up his rookie season in the Bennett’s British Superbike Championship with two strong finishes in the final round of the 2022 season at Brands Hatch.

The Solihull rider passed a fitness test to race in the season finale as he continues to recover from a huge crash at Donington Park a fortnight ago.

Delves qualified to start on the ninth row of the grid and finished 20th in the sprint race after a crash between two riders on the final lap allowed him to improve his final position.

He moved up to the eighth row of the grid for race two and fell back to 25th after a poor start but recovered and passed another rider on the final lap to place 20th at the chequered flag.

However, Delves was unable to finish race three as the pain from his crash at Donington Park became more severe and he was forced to retire on lap 11 of 20.

Delves said: “I had a positive first race and recorded another personal best lap time. I managed to hold on to the pack until the final three laps when arm pump kicked in which slowed me.

“That’s my last ride of 2022 on the Rapid Training Rapid CDH Racing Kawasaki Superbike fuelled by Cheshire Mouldings and Woodturnings Ltd.

“It was a very difficult weekend carrying the injury from the crash at Donington Park but as a team we made some big steps forward and improving lap times every session.

“Unfortunately, in the third race, the pain from my neck was too much and I had to retire on lap 11.

“It has been an absolute pleasure working with everyone in my team CDH Racing, thank you so much everyone for your support.

“I now have a two-week rest period before I start my 2023 Fitter and Faster Training programme and I will come back next year stronger and fully fit for my second year in the British Superbike Championship.”
