A TOTAL of 29 members from Solihull Swimming Club made the trip up north to Sheffield for its annual swim meet at Ponds Forge on November 29.

The club has been attending the popular event for a large number of years and once again it was a great opportunity for its members to gain experience of swimming inside a 50-metre pool.

Despite the early start (5.30am) the team had members competing from all age groups with some swimming in an Olympic-sized pool for the very first time.

This year’s event proved to be very competitive but Solihull managed to come away with an incredible 39 medals, which places Solihull 6th out of 33 teams and there were also numerous personal best times spread across the team.

Laila Elfandi took first place in the 50metre Fly race for 9-year-old girls, while Ben Kelly also finished first in the ten year boys 50metre Back and Aurelio Lencioni took two golds in the 14-year-old Boys 200IM and 100 Breast categories.

There were also second place finishes for Reece Harvey in the nine year Boys 200IM, Ben Kelly in the ten year Boys 50m Free and Benjamin Davis took home two silver medals in the 14-year Boys 200IM and 100 Breast races.

Solihull head coach Dean Barguss was at poolside encouraging and motivating his swimmer and new club captains Rachel Davis and Luke Greenhill also made the trip and looked after the club’s junior members.
