SOLIHULL’s Daanyal Spalding is embarking on the biggest fortnight of his year as he sets out to secure his place on this season’s Euro Pro Tour with the ultimate ambition of eventually earning himself a spot on the PGA European Tour.
Professional golfer Spalding, who has secured a second year’s sponsorship from Four Ashes Golf Centre where he first learned to play the game, took place in the first qualifying round this week at The Players’ Club in Bristol.
It is one of six venues where hopefuls like him will want to make the cut to the final qualifying event which is over three days next week, starting on Wednesday.
“It’s tough, but I’m up for the challenge,” said Spalding.
“I’ve been working hard all through the winter and after making good progress on the Euro Pro Tour last year. I’m absolutely determined to be involved again this year.
“Hopefully I’ll get through this week and then it goes up another level where we take part in final qualifying at Fulford Heath in Oxfordshire.
“But I successfully negotiated the qualifying stages last year, so I’ve got the experience and, as I say, I’m totally focused.”
Andy Devane, operations manager at Four Ashes Golf Centre, said he was delighted to be supporting Spalding.
“His golf journey started with us when he was a young lad. We’re proud to have watched his progress since then and will give him all the support he needs to help fulfil his dream.
“Daanyal’s a great lad, he’s a popular figure around the golf centre, he’s always on hand to give advice, he’s great with the kids and spends a lot of time giving them encouragement and tips on how to improve their game which is fantastic.”
