SOLIHULL racer Liam Delves recorded a ninth and seventh-place finish at the third round of the Hel Performance British MotoStar Championship in Scotland.
It has been a long eight weeks since the 17-year-old was last in racing action but his lengthy spell away from racing did little to deter his spirits at Knockhill.
He had been running well within the top three during free practice and was lying in third place during the early stages of qualifying before tipping off unhurt at turn two.
After a lot of hard work by the team, the bike was up and ready for the Sprint race with Delves setting off from the third row to settle into eighth place on the first lap.
He was pushed back to ninth on lap three.
Although he briefly moved forward to eighth on lap 16 of 18, he was unable to maintain the position and crossed the finish line in ninth to pick up seven championship points.
Starting the Feature race from the third row, Delves settled into ninth position on the opening lap.
He was pushed back to tenth on lap two but reclaimed the position a lap later to join a group of four riders all fighting for sixth place.
On lap eight a rider ahead crashed out which promoted Delves into sixth position which he held until lap 15 when Chris Taylor edged past him.
But then one of the leaders crashed to leave Delves fifth.
On lap 18 he moved past Taylor to take up fourth place but two laps later Ed Best managed a pass and on the final lap two more riders got the better run to the hairpin and Delves found himself in seventh place where he remained on the run to the flag.
Delves’ total to 41 points moves him up to joint seventh in the overall standings. The next round is at Brands Hatch this weekend.
