Sixth form student helps American Football team to international bronze

AMERICAN FOOTBALL: A SIXTH Form College BTEC student has been forging a successful American Football career while continuing with her studies.

Alice Briggs helped Coventry Cougars Flaf American Football team pick up third place at an international tournament in Amsterdam.

The 18-year-old took part in the Pink Bowl American Football tournament, so named because one of the aims of this tournament is to raise awareness of breast cancer.

Up against teams from across the world, including Mexican International Ladies, Spanish International Ladies, Team Paris, and Team Germany, Alice helped her team win five matches out of seven.

She said: “It was a great experience to play in this tournament and I’m pleased with how we did.

“I am a blitzer, which means I try to tackle the opposition’s Quarter Back, before they throw the ball.

“I’ve been playing American Football for nearly three years after being introduced to the sport in PE at secondary school.

“My goal is to get into the GB team by the time I’m 21.”

Alice is currently studying on the BTEC Extended Diploma in Health & Social Care course and juggles her studies with her American Football career, which includes training three times a week and matches every Saturday.
