Sils cruise past bottom club Old Yardleians

RUGBY UNION: OLD Silhillians cruised past bottom club Old Yardleians to move up to tenth in the Midlands 2 South (West) division.

The visiting side made the best start when Sils’ Ed Atkins picked up the ball from a 5m scrum to set Matt Lee up for an easy try as Sils took an early 7-0 lead.

Returning from injury, Ollie Trace helped double Sils’ lead when he touched down under the posts.

Sils’ second try appeared to inspire the home side though, and they soon pulled a try back when their prop went over the line with numerous Sils bodies underneath him.

Old Yardleians continued to press and dominated possession throughout the next ten minutes, but it was Sils that scored next.

Nick Elliott crashed over the whitewash from five metres out as Sils led 19-7 at half time.

Quick hands at the back allowed Sils to continue their dominance of the game when James Arney went under the post to make it 26-7.

Sils were handed a blow when Joe Puck was lost to a dislocated knee cap, pausing the game for a significant amount of time.

A penalty kick followed, extending Sils’ lead to 22 points.

It took until the very final play of the game for Yards to launch another attack as they landed a late try.

Next week Sils travel to Southam in what promises to be a difficult game.
