BIRMINGHAM and Solihull Bees toppled league leaders Barkers Butts after claiming a bonus point 32-25 victory.
Tries from Joel Smyth, Alistair Cook, Will Heath and Storm Atkins and 12 points from the boot of James Widdop helped the Bees to victory at Portway.
The result means Solihull sit fourth in the Counties 2 Midlands West (East) table, nine points behind leaders Barkers Butts.
Playing at home for the first time since mid-December, the Bees took an early three-point lead when Widdop kicked a penalty.
And Solihull scored the game’s first try soon after as Smyth dotted down following good work from the forwards.
However, Barkers cut the deficit with a penalty and drew level with their first try after the Bees fumbled the ball from the restart.
The home side edged back in front when Widdop kicked his second penalty of the match.
And Solihull crossed for their second try when Cook marked his 50th first team appearance for the club with a fine solo effort.
Cook ran 40-yards with the ball and then side stepped the last defender to score under the posts as Widdop added the extras.
The visitors reduced the deficit to five points at the interval with a second try following sustained pressure on the Solihull line.
However, the Bees scored a third try early after the break as Heath burst through a gap and raced 30-yards to the line to score under the posts as Widdop converted.
And Solihull scored a bonus point try just past the hour mark when Atkins collected the ball on his own 22 and powered through the Butts line to dot down as Widdop added the extras.
The leaders eventually reduced the deficit with a penalty try eight minutes from time while Solihull also lost Ben Haworth to the sin-bin.
However, despite the visitors scoring a bonus point try of their own in the corner at the death, the Bees secured a hard fought victory.
