BIRMINGHAM and Solihull Bees secured a third straight home win with an entertaining 46-34 bonus point victory against Lutterworth II.

Both Ryan Sleaford and Kody Turner crossed twice while Joe Rogers, Liam Dunne and Harry Garratt also touched down in a seven-try victory for the Bees at Portway.

The result means Solihull sit fourth in the Counties 2 Midlands West (East) table.

A minute’s silence took place prior to kick-off as the Bees paid tribute to Alec Abercrombie a former first team captain, honorary treasurer and president of the club who recently passed away.

He also received life membership at the club for his services to the Bees.

The Bees fell behind early on as Lutterworth kicked a penalty only for Sleaford to score the game’s first try on five minutes as he spotted a gap and dived over the line.

However, the visitors responded on eight minutes with the away side awarded a penalty try while the Bees also lost a player to the sin-bin for a deliberate knock-on.

And Lutterworth made the most of the extra player to score again on 10 minutes to take an early 12-point lead.

The Bees responded against the run of play as Solihull picked up a loose ball in midfield and Rogers crossed for the home side’s second try.

With Solihull back up to a full contingent of players, Lutterworth lost a player to the sin-bin for a high tackle.

And the Bees took full advantage of the extra player as the home side ran in three tries in the space of 14 minutes.

Turner, Dunne and Garratt all dotted down with the latter scoring after he directly collected a 22 drop out and ran in unopposed.

The flurry of tries saw the Bees turn the game on its head and take a 14-point lead into the break.

And the home side extended their lead in the second half as Sleaford crossed for his second try of the game.

However, Lutterworth threatened a comeback as the visitors scored three tries in the space of 12 minutes to close the gap to seven points.

The Bees made sure of the points in the final minute as Turner dotted down his second try of the game following sustained pressure on the Lutterworth line.

Birmingham and Solihull are next in action against Berkswell and Balsall on Saturday, October 18 with kick-off at 3pm at Honiley Road.
