A DEPLETED Birmingham and Solihull Bees slipped to a third defeat from four matches after losing 59-24 against Coalville.

Tries from Archie Beddard, PJ Hatch, Harry Garrett and Will Heath ensured the Bees came away with a try bonus point at Hall Lane.

The result means Birmingham and Solihull sit eighth in the Counties 2 Midlands West (East) table.

The Bees handed a league debut to Calum McLynskey while the team physio had to answer another call to play due to unavailability.

And a mistake straight from the kick-off allowed Coalville to score the game’s first try from a move which started on the home side’s own 22-yard line.

However, the Bees responded when Beddard showed a great turn of pace to beat his opposite number out wide on the right and dot down for an unconverted score.

The visitors then lost Hatch to the sin-bin and Coalville took full advantage of the extra man to score two converted tries.

On his return to the pitch, Hatch made up for his mistake by touching down Solihull’s second try with Ollie Nesbitt kicking the conversion.

Coalville took the game out of Solihull’s reach after the break with four further tries before the hour mark.

Some superb work in the forwards then released Heath who in-turn found Hatch who produced a cross-field kick which Garrett scooped up to score with Heath adding the extras.

The home side added two more tries from quickly-taken tap penalties to increase the gap between the two teams.

However, the Bees showed fight to claim a try bonus point when Heath made the most of an advantage to chase the ball and score under the posts before converting his own try.

Coalville had the final say and completed the scoring on the final play of the game.

Birmingham and Solihull Bees are next in action against Claverdon on Saturday, October 12 with kick-off at 3pm at Portway.
