BIRMINGHAM and Solihull Bees propelled themselves back into the promotion hunt following a comprehensive 62-17 victory at Claverdon.
The Bees ran in nine tries at Ossetts Hole Lane as Adam Trombley and George Widdop both dotted down twice while Liam Dunne, Harry Garratt, Ryan Sleaford, Jack Allen and Joe Rogers all touched down.
And the result means Solihull sit fourth in the Counties 2 Midlands West (East) table, just four points behind Bromsgrove II in second.
The Bees made a strong start as Claverdon conceded three early penalties the last of which Will Heath kicked between the posts.
However, the home side responded with the game’s first try on eight minutes to take a narrow two-point lead.
Solihull responded when Dunne peeled off the back of a lineout and ran 15-yards to the line.
And Widdop then jinked his way to the line from 20-yards out after good work from Pete Gordon and Ryan Sleaford.
The Bees secured a third try on the stroke of half time when captain Trombley dashed over to send the visitors into the break with a 17-point lead.
Solihull lost Shaun Pollard-Jenkins to the sin-bin early in the second period after the referee warned both teams about the increasing number of penalties.
Claverdon made the most of the extra man to score a second try only for the Bees to blow their opponents away with a blitz of tries.
The influential Kody Turner helped both Garratt and Sleaford cross for tries as the Bees secured a bonus point despite still playing with a man less.
And the returning Allen, out injured since November, was next to touch down which took the game out of Claverdon’s reach.
The home side eventually crossed for a third try only for Trombley, Rogers and Widdop, the latter scoring a fine solo try, all to dot down for the Bees in the space of four minutes.
And the late burst of tries saw Solihull’s Heath finish the game with a 17-point individual haul as he kicked eight of 10 kicks.
