MIDLANDS Hurricanes rugby league club have officially been taken over by Huddersfield-based group of companies Big Red.
Big Red Industries Group is a diverse company with interests predominantly in the Built Environment.
The Betfred League One club had previously been jointly owned by Mike Lomas and Alan Robinson however an agreement was made where Big Red Industries Group, of which Lomas is CEO and owner, would purchase the club.
Lomas will continue in his role as club chairman and has appointed Greg Wood as CEO of the Hurricanes who brings a wealth of knowledge from a career in professional sport.
Both Lomas and Wood have confirmed they have exciting plans in the pipeline on how they wish to develop the sport in the Midlands area and increase the uptake for rugby league in the surrounding areas.
It is known that rugby league outside the heartlands is a real opportunity for the growth and development of the sport, the Midlands Hurricanes want to lead this campaign and grow the engagement of the sport in the Midlands.
Moving forward, they are both looking to drive the community engagement for rugby by targeting schools and hope to encourage schoolchildren to gain interest in the sport and ultimately promote the sport to the parents to attend the games as a weekend pastime.
Big Red Industries Group have sponsored Super League side Huddersfield Giants for the last five seasons with Lomas and Wood looking to build relationships with local hospitals and businesses by offering discounted game day and season tickets.
The pair are also finalising a limited number of sponsorship opportunities available with the recent launch of the new Ellgren official 2023 home and away kits.
And the club are currently in the process of moving to an exciting new stadium which they hope to announce in the coming weeks.
