Reckord extends Moors' perfect start to pre-season against Bucks

TIM Flowers’ Solihull Moors have continued their 100% start to pre-season, after a 1-0 victory against AFC Telford United.

A strike from Jamie Reckord in Tuesday night’s trip to Telford was enough to earn a fourth warm-up win from four.

Moors looked threatening in the early exchanges at New Bucks Head, going close at a couple of set pieces through Liam Daly and Paul McCallum.

Nathan Blissett then forced the first effort on target when meeting Darren Carter’s ball – though his header was easy work for Telford keeper Corey Addai.

A goal did arrive just before the half-hour mark, courtesy of Reckord’s intuition to cut inside from the left flank and pick out the top-right corner of the net.

His strike was almost cancelled out before the break by Marcus Dinanga, who fizzed a shot goalwards that required tipping around the post by Moors custodian Ryan Boot.

Dinanga remained a threat for the Bucks and played through Andre Brown early in the second half, but Moors were fortunately saved by the speed of Boot to rush off his line.

Jamey Osborne attempted a trademark crack from distance after spotting Addai off his line, but the keeper was equal to it and managed to backtrack in time.

After making six changes at the break, as is common with pre-season, substitutes Mitch Hancox and Danny Wright almost combined to double the lead, when the former whipped a low cross from the left flank into the striker – who narrowly missed the centre.

Stenson then went close when racing past the hosts’ back line and crashing an effort onto the post and out, to the relief of the Bucks.

Moors were deserving of a second for their dominance, with Alex Gudger almost providing it in the dying moments with a header onto the top of the bar, but an insurance goal was not needed as Solihull claimed yet another warm-up victory.

A trip to Northern Premier League Division One South East side Ilkeston Town on Saturday (3pm) now awaits Flowers’ side, who then host League One Burton Albion on Tuesday (7.30pm) in the first fixture at the revamped SportNation.bet Stadium.
