Profitable weekend for Solihull Barons

Solihull Editorial 27th Sep, 2018   0

SOLIHULL Barons brought home four points from their two NIHL North Division One fixtures over the weekend.

On Saturday evening they welcomed Whitley Warriors to Solihull and, with both sides hungry for points having had a slow start to the season, a cracker was on offer.

The game got off to a relatively slow start, with a Barons goal by Andy Whitehouse being cancelled out by the Warriors by the end of the first period.

Further goals by Niklas Ottosson and Matt Maurice gave the Barons something of a cushion going into the final 20 minutes before Solihull began to run into penalty trouble.

The visitors took their chances with the extra man, pulling back a goal on the powerplay before Daniel Good got the equaliser for the visitors with only a couple of minutes of the game.

With both the home and visiting sides supporters on the edge of their seats, it looked as though penalty shots were on the cards with the score at 3-3 but Luke and Adam Brittle combined to fire home the winner for Barons in overtime.

Then on Sunday the Barons headed to Nottingham to take on the Lions.

Lions nosed themselves ahead but a trio of Solihull goals in just over a minute showed Barons’ intent.

Barons dominated the second and third periods, eventually running out emphatic 14-2 winners.

Up next for Barons is a trip to Solway Sharks on Saturday followed by an away day at Blackburn Hawks on Sunday.
