Olton & West Warwick Ladies on the up after play-off win

Ben Tyler 23rd Apr, 2019

OLTON & WEST WARWICK Hockey Club’s ladies first XI joined the men’s side in gaining promotion recently.

Their 3-0 win against Horsham confirmed they will play in a higher tier next season, after winning both of their Investec Ladies Division 1 play-off matches.

After seeing off Leeds, the straightforward win against Horsham got off to the perfect start when Kat Berns struck from open play on nine minutes.

The hosts then doubled their lead just three minutes later, thanks to Sally Walton’s hit from a penalty corner that was turned in by Kate Brough.

Horsham went further behind 12 minutes after the break, when Walton fired in a goal of her own to cap off a team move.

Olton could have had extended their lead further albeit for the determined Horsham defence, although the final result is the all-important outcome that sends Olton into Division 1.
