New deal for delighted Daly at the Moors

Solihull Editorial 18th Jan, 2019   0

LONG-serving Solihull Moors defender Liam Daly has put pen-to-paper on a new deal at the club until the end of the 2019/20 season.

Daly has been an ever-present in Tim Flowers’ side this season, albeit missing just 50 minutes of the action, with 17 clean sheets kept with the 31-year old in the backline.

The centre-back arrived in 2008 from Redditch United, making more than 250 appearances for the Moors in that time and having been a part of the 2015/16 National League North title winning side and a vital cog in Solihull maintaining it’s position as a recurring fixture in the National League in recent seasons.

Daly spoke of his affection for the club and his delight at extending his stay.

“I’m over the moon to sign a new deal. It gives me a bit of security and I’m just happy that it’s finally been sorted out,” he beamed.

“The club means a lot to me – not just the football side, but I’m quite close with the fans and people in and around the club.

“It’s not just a football club, it’s a family club and that’s me all over.”

Manager Tim Flowers meanwhile stressed how important it was to retain a key figure at club for the long-term.

“I’m delighted – he’s Mr Solihull. He’s had a strong season, another strong season. He’s been at this football club for a long time on and off.

“He’s played a good few hundred games for us and is a popular lad – with the players and the supporters.

“We’re pleased to be in a position to be able to offer him something that he’s found acceptable and he’ll go into a pool of four very good centre halves that we’ve got at the football club.

“We’ve got a real good mix of youth and experience. He’s done really well for us this season, he’s big and powerful, he’s a leader and I’m delighted to have him at the football club going forward.”

Moors Sporting Director Mark Fogarty exclaimed: “We are delighted that we have managed to secure Liam on a longer contract, and it is just reward for his consistency and loyalty over the years.

“I know that Liam loves the club and that the fans love him too and this will be a very popular signing for us.

“I believe that Liam’s signing alongside the extensions and signings of other players within the squad sends out the message that we mean business and are determined to take the Football Club to the next level.”
