Knowle & Dorridge looking to defend floodlit title at Kenilworth Wardens

KENILWORTH Wardens host their annual floodlit competition for a seventh consecutive year next week.

The tournament, which starts on Monday, sees the introduction of the 100-ball format and two new sides adding to the star-studded line-ups already on show.

Warwickshire League title contenders Bedworth join Birmingham League Premier Division side Dorridge in an expanded format which will see two groups of three battling it out for a place in the final.

In Group A, Wardens will be looking for Indian overseas star Prerak Mankad to shine with both bat and ball if they are to lift the trophy.

However, they will have to overcome rivals Leamington and holders Knowle & Dorridge who have firepower at the top of the order in Alex Phillips and New Zealand International George Worker.

Over in Group B, Berkswell will be able to call upon the services of as many as eight players with first-class experience including former Warwickshire and Glamorgan all-rounder Nick James.

They will come up against a Dorridge side led by the explosive David Ball and paceman James Ayres.

Bedworth will be looking to cause an upset in the group and, with the experience of former Worcestershire man Abdul Hafeez, they could surprise a few.

The semi-finals will be played on Thursday (7.50pm starts) with the final on Friday night (7.30pm). Entry is £2 per person or £5 per car.
