BERKSWELL were knocked off the top of the Birmingham League Premier Division table after they fell to a surprise four-run defeat to Ombersley.

Batting first, Berkswell recovered from 84-6 to post a total of 165 all out, thanks to patient batting from Nick James (31), Tom Lewis (36), and Grant Thornton (46).

In reply Ombersley made steady progress and were just about in touch with the required scoring rate.

Unfortunately for Berkswell the rain came at a time when Ombersley, on 65-2, had exceeded by just two runs the total required by the Duckworth Lewis scoring system to claim maximum points.

Defeat for Berkswell allowed reigning champions Knowle & Dorridge to move to the summit by 12 points following their 66-run victory over Walsall.

Alex Phillips played a classy innings of 142 from 112 balls as he and George Worker (66) put together an opening partnership of 160.

Oliver Haley added a belligerent 55 as K&D racked up 346-9.

The game came to a halt after 40 overs of the Walsall innings with the home side on 208-6.

K&D play host to Moseley on Saturday while Berkswell entertain Walsall.
