ICE HOCKEY - Vixens rescue late draw at Kingston

Solihull Editorial 2nd Feb, 2023   0

SOLIHULL Vixens saw their eight-game winning run come to an end after the Vixens were held to a 5-5 draw away at Kingston Diamonds in Hull.

Grace Garbett struck twice for Solihull with Jodie Alderson-Smith, Laura Horwood and Katie Henry all on target at Hull Arena as Vixens scored two goals in the final 15 minutes to rescue a draw.

Vixens recently received their new kit and logo from local company EDG Security ahead of the long trip and late face-off.

And the long journey seemed to take its toll on Vixens as Kingston took the lead after just six minutes before Garbett levelled 10 minutes later as the first period ended all square.

However, Kingston regained the lead just 30 seconds into the second period before striking again later on as  Alderson-Smith reduced the deficit to a single goal despite outshooting their opponents by 12 shots.

The third period proved to be a long affair, as several stoppages disrupted the flow of the game, before Garbett’s second of the game drew Vixens level.

Kingston scored a quickfire double and looked set for victory only for Vixens head coach Reg Wilcox to call a crucial timeout after which Solihull levelled through goals from Horwood and Henry.

Vixens are still unbeaten in the Women’s National Ice Hockey Elite League this season and remain top of the standings by a point with a game in hand.

Solihull are next in action at home to Guildford Lightning on Saturday, February 4 with the face-off at 6.25pm at Planet Ice Solihull.
