ICE HOCKEY - Vixens stay perfect after big Streatham win

Solihull Editorial 18th Jan, 2023   0

SOLIHULL Vixens secured an eighth straight win with a 7-1 thrashing of Streatham Storm to move top of the table after picking up double points.

Vixens eased to victory thanks to two goals each from Jodie Alderson-Smith and Katie Henry and further strikes from Alana Clare, Anna Badoui and Saffron Allen at Planet Ice Solihull.

And Solihull secured double points for the victory after their original clash with Streatham was postponed and no spare dates were available to replay the match.

That means Vixens now lead the Women’s National Ice Hockey Elite League standings by two points.

Solihull were without three players who were away with the Great Britain University team in Lake Placid at the FISU World University Games.

And Vixens took the lead at 11.01 when Clare struck from the blue line only for Streatham to equalise at 13.47 to tie up the game at the end of the first period.

However, Solihull dominated from the restart as Alderson-Smith scored twice and Henry extended the Vixens lead to all but settle the game.

And further goals from Badoui and Allen and a second strike from Henry added some gloss to the scoreline as Vixens moved clear at the top of the table with a game in hand.

Solihull are next in action away at Kingston Diamonds on Sunday, January 29 with the face-off at 4.30pm.
