SOLIHULL Vixens missed out on play-off final glory in the Women’s National Ice Hockey League (WNIHL) following defeat against Queen Bees at Ice Sheffield.
The Vixens had already won the Elite League Championship trophy and went into the play-offs hoping to secure another title.
And Solihull cruised to a 7-1 victory against Guildford Lightning to book their place in the play-off final.
Vixens renewed their rivalry with league runners-up Queen Bees in the final after the latter side beat Whitley Bay Beacons 7-2 in the other semi-final.
The final proved a tight affair as Queen Bees took a one-goal lead in the second period.
And Queen Bees scored an empty net goal with seconds left on the clock to seal play-off victory.
Despite Solihull’s best efforts to breakdown a stubborn defence, the Vixens could not find a way through.
The game marked the first time in 22 games this season in which Solihull failed to score.
Vixens were presented with the Elite League Championship trophy and player medals following their victory against Guildford.
