Hampton & Solihull beaten in 30-over encounter

A SEVEN wicket loss sent Hampton & Solihull down into seventh, following their 30 overs match against Nuneaton in Warwickshire County Cricket League Division 1.

Nuneaton leapfrog Hampton into sixth as a result, after reaching the visitor’s total of 134-9 in the 25th over.

The hosts put H&S into bat after winning the toss and dismissed opener James Lunn (12) at 15-1, before the duo of Andrew Mackey (19) and Johangir Khan (17) hit 38 to get the ball rolling for the away side.

Matthew James (4) was dismissed after just five balls faced, but had Mark James (31 not out) and Luke Friend (22) to thank for accumulating the runs in his absence.

But after Hampton’s tailenders failed to claim crucial late runs, a big effort was required in the second innings to prevent a fourth loss of the season.

Nuneaton’s batting line-up was too strong, however, with Martin Cox (23) and Kieran Andrew (54 not out) forming a 41-run partnership, followed by an even better effort of 45 put on by Andrew and Jordan Gilkes (16) to win the game.

Khan (1-28), Tim Keyte (1-27) and Matt Rollinson (1-16) claimed the Knowle & Dorridge wickets, who now prepare to host bottom-side Aston Manor on Saturday (12.30pm).
