Good Evans! K&D's Jane is champ again

THEY say lightning never strikes twice, but Jane Evans proved that notion incorrect by winning the senior women’s title at the Warwickshire Cross Country Championships on Saturday – 20 years after first lifting the title.

The Knowle & Dorridge Running Club runner achieved the stand-out result of a successful weekend at Warley Woods, which was marked with a number of medals for herself and her teammates.

Evans raced home first in the senior women’s 6km event in a time of 20:58, making her a Warwickshire champion for a second time since the turn of the Millennium.

In winning the event, she led the way for teammates Rachel Gifford (22.12) and Izzy Davis (23.08) to follow closely behind with impressive finishes.

The timings of the trio were enough for them to rank second in the Women’s Championship on 23 points and take home silver medals for their efforts – beating the third-place finish from last year’s event.

Elsewhere, Chris Sharp was victorious in the Masters (35+) Warwickshire County Championship, finishing 11th overall in 29 minutes and 53 seconds but as the fastest masters athlete in the 8.6km men’s race.
