TOBY Peters emerged victorious at the 2025 Peter McEvoy Trophy following a composed final round performance at Copt Heath Golf Club in Knowle.
Peters, representing Essex, claimed the prestigious title after carding a final-round 67 to overturn a six-shot deficit and finish top of the leaderboard.
Consistent scoring throughout the final day’s play allowed Peters to edge ahead in a field which included a number of leading junior golfers from across the UK and Europe.
Peters said: “I felt it was going to be an uphill battle and I knew something had to happen quick, so thankfully it did.
“I made the turn at three-under, made a great birdie putt on 17 and closed it out for the win.
“The putts didn’t drop in the morning and I got punished for it, but I came out with a fresh head and felt really confident.
“I’m really pleased to win and proud to have been added to a long list of names to this trophy.”
Peters finished one-shot ahead of Samuel Marshall while Harry Dickens, Jack Swift and Thomas Hartshorne tied for third place.
This year’s edition is the first to take place since the recent passing of Peter McEvoy OBE, the tournament’s namesake and a stalwart of amateur golf.
McEvoy died at the age of 72 earlier this month.
The tournament helped launch the careers of golfing greats like Justin Rose and Lee Westwood.
A towering figure in amateur golf, McEvoy became the first British amateur to make the cut at the Masters in 1978.
He also won back-to-back Amateur Championships in 1977 and 1978 and captained Great Britain and Ireland to Walker Cup victories in 1999 and 2001.
His lifelong commitment to nurturing young talent led to the establishment of the Peter McEvoy Trophy in 1981, hosted annually at his home club Copt Heath.
This year marked the 44th edition of the Peter McEvoy Trophy.
