A PLAYER and club from Solihull have been named as finalists at the prestigious England Golf Awards.

Hannah Crump is a finalist in the participation and development coach of the year category.

And Shirley Golf Club are finalists in the club of the year award.

The England Golf Awards take place in Manchester on Wednesday, April 2.

And 10 of the awards were open to the public for nominations. An expert panel of 50 judges, comprising England Golf staff and key industry and media colleagues, picked the finalists.

Crump, who plays out of Stonebridge Golf Club, has helped hundreds of players across all levels and backgrounds to make the sport more accessible for women.

She holds free introductory sessions, group women lessons and fun social events to help players overcome initial hesitations.

Crump also mentors and supports her players and has successfully increased membership at the club by attracting women of all ages and backgrounds.

Her work has directly led to improved female participation rates in county tournaments and club events.

She has encouraged 25 ladies, who otherwise would not have had the confidence to join a golf club, to join Stonebridge.

Shirley Golf Club in Solihull are also finalists.

The club’s golf for disabled children project delivers free coaching to over 100 SEND children from local schools every week.

They have achieved this for over 20 years through money donated from members and also its annual GFDC Golf Day.

An ecology report saw work carried out on the golf course to remove dead trees which were handmade into outdoor seating and donated to a local forestry school to conduct outdoor lessons for children.

The club also created a greener/eco golf network in 2024 which enables local clubs, people and communities to work together on improving sustainability and wildlife in the local area.

Shirley has welcomed over 160 new members and increased membership benefits to focus on mental/physical health through partnerships with local gyms, financial advisors, discounts to wellbeing events and more.

The club’s charity work also raised nearly £100,000 for charitable causes.
