ANDY Whing insists Solihull Moors can be ‘extremely proud’ of their achievements this season despite losing on penalties in both the Promotion Final and FA Trophy final.
Whing guided Moors to the brink of the Football League in his first season in charge at the ARMCO Arena as Solihull made two trips to Wembley in the space of six days.
After defeat to Bromley in the National League Promotion Final, Moors suffered a second penalty shootout defeat at Wembley against Gateshead in the FA Trophy final.
Whing said: “It was fine margins, both games could have gone either way, we had really good chances against Gateshead, we’ve got to score them and go and win the game.
“You come to penalties and it’s like a lottery like last week, tired legs and tired minds, the disappointment of last week lingering.
“We can be extremely proud of what we’ve achieved this season, to get to two finals and get a blueprint of how we want to play, we’re exciting and we score goals.
“The biggest thing for me was seeing 8,000 Solihull Moors cheer us on, they’ve been absolutely magnificent all season.”
However, despite the club’s season ending in heartbreaking fashion, Whing hopes to use the momentum gained this campaign to drive Moors forward next term.
Whing added: “Can the club grow and keep growing? It’s a small club and a small community, it took Bromley 130 years to get promoted last week, we’ve been in it for 16 years.
“It should be a really exciting future and hopefully we can keep the momentum going now and push on to next season. We’ve got an identity now of how we want to play.
“We want to get more people through the door and get out to the community a lot more and really drive this football club forward.
“There’s loads of things to work on and look forward to, it’s a big summer, we know what we want, where we want to get to and what we want to achieve.”
