MATTY Warburton scored the only goal as Solihull Moors battled to a hard-fought 1-0 win against Kidderminster Harriers to preserve their unbeaten start to the season.

Warburton’s first-half goal proved decisive at Aggborough with Moors now unbeaten in their opening nine matches of the season.

The result means Solihull sit second in the National League table, three points behind leaders Chesterfield.

And Moors took the lead on 15 minutes when Warburton’s header beat Christian Dibble in the Kidderminster goal after Mark Beck flicked on Jamey Osborne’s floated set piece.

Kidderminster went close to an equaliser later in the half as Gus Mafuta threw himself in front of Barry Maguire’s shot to deflect the ball onto the roof of the net.

Moors goalkeeper Tommy Simkin then made an important stop at the far post, pushing the ball to safety after a set piece from the right caused the visitors problems.

Andy Whing’s side almost doubled their lead at the start of the second period when Osborne found Warburton in the box only for the latter to fire a low effort inches past the post.

At the other end, Simkin made another crucial save to keep out Jack Lambert’s low effort before then producing a stunning acrobatic stop to tip Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain’s shot over the crossbar.

Solihull are next in action at home to AFC Fylde on Tuesday, September 19 with kick-off at 7.45pm at the ARMCO Arena.
