HARRY Street’s brace helped Earlswood Town to a crucial 2-1 win against Fairfield Villa as the Earls moved further clear of the relegation zone.

Street struck either side of half time to end the club’s five-game losing run in all competitions with match played at Highgate United.

The result means Earlswood sit 12th in the Midland Football League Division Two table, seven points clear of bottom club Littleton with several games in hand on the teams below them.

Due to an ongoing drainage issue with the pitch at the Earls’ Pavilions home, the game took place at Highgate’s Tythe Barn Lane ground to help tackle the club’s exhausting fixture backlog.

And despite Earls midfielder and captain Louis Bridges playing in goal, Earlswood took the lead on 38 minutes when Street fired a shot into the roof of the net.

However, Villa equalised on the hour mark as Darren Green slotted home after he pounced on a misplaced pass from the returning Tom Reynolds.

The Earls restored their lead on 75 minutes when Street tapped in Dan Elwell’s driven cross at the back post.

Earlswood are next in action against Alcester Town on Thursday, April 18 with kick-off at 6.20pm at Highgate’s Tythe Barn Lane ground.
