FOOTBALL - Solihull Sporting Ladies beat Redditch again

SOLIHULL Sporting Ladies eased to a 4-0 win away at Redditch United to secure their first victory in three league matches.

Lauren Smith scored a hat-trick with Dionne Williams also on target at the Trico Stadium to sit fifth in the West Midlands Regional Women’s Football League Premier Division table.

The game was a replay of the County Cup third round clash from a fortnight ago where Solihull Sporting ran out 9-0 winners, however, Redditch had since strengthened their squad with some new signings.

Solihull almost took the lead in the first minute only for Redditch goalkeeper Courtney Farrell to make a crucial save.

However, the visitors eventually took the lead on 15 minutes when Smith sprinted away from the Redditch defence and calmly slotted past the keeper from Hollie Ellison’s through ball.

Solihull hit the crossbar and forced Farrell into another good save in search of a second goal before Sporting keeper Dion Germaine pulled off a fantastic fingertip save to her right to push the ball around the post at the other end.

The visitors doubled their lead in the second half when Smith beat the offside trap before she produced another cool finish to grab her second of the game.

And Solihull hit the crossbar again before Williams won a fifty-fifty challenge and outpaced the Redditch defence to score Sporting’s third goal of the afternoon.

Redditch were unable to find a way past Solihull defenders Abbie Taylor, Molly Gilmartin and Kyra Dawes before Smith completed the scoring and her hat-trick late on to score her second successive treble against the Reds.

Solihull are next in action against Sutton Coldfield Town Women on Sunday, December 11 with kick-off at 2pm at John Henry Newman Catholic College.
