SOLIHULL Moors Women have confirmed the appointment of Joe Kirkland as the club’s new manager.

Kirkland replaces the interim coaching team of Shane Askew, Craig Johnson and Clint Williams who took charge of the side following the departure of former boss Tom Blaymires and his coaching staff.

The club have also appointed Trevor Sutcliffe as assistant manager. He previously worked with Kirkland at former club Burton Albion.

Kirkland said: “I’m very excited to be back in football, it’s been a weird time with me being out of the game for a couple of months, and Trevor coming in adds value to the team immediately, he’s able to help create environment where players feel supported and valued, which ultimately then contributes to performance.

“He’s a fantastic person and I’m delighted to have him with me as part of this journey.

“The main goal is to change the perception of Solihull Moors Women. I think that’s really important.

“We feel as the coaching staff, we managed to do that at the previous club and ultimately bring value to the players and the junior pathway as well which I think is important.

“We’ve got to get points on the board straight away, but the key message is we are here to win and take things seriously.”

Community operations manager at the Solihull Moors Foundation, Joe Butler, said: “After receiving Joe’s incredible CV, I immediately reached out to him.

“From our initial conversations, it was clear he would be the perfect fit for us. Not only does he bring invaluable experience in the game, but his ethos and values align perfectly with ours.

“To then have Trevor come in alongside Joe who he has worked with before and shares the same qualities, we are delighted to have them both as part of our team.”

Kirkland has spent time coaching abroad in the United States of America, European countries and Ghana, where he coached a top tier women’s team.
