SOLIHULL Moors surrendered an early lead in a 2-1 home defeat against relegation-threatened Gateshead.

Moors took the lead after just six minutes courtesy of Darius Lipsiuc’s early strike at Damson Park.

However, goals from Harry Chapman and Ben Radcliffe turned the game in Gateshead’s favour to boost the away side’s survival hopes.

The away side’s second goal came moments after Conor Wilkinson sent a penalty over the crossbar.

And the result means Solihull sit 14th in the National League table with Moors winless in their last six matches.

Moors broke the deadlock after just six minutes when Ben Worman played a defence-splitting pass into the path of Lipsiuc who coolly found the bottom right corner from 10-yards out.

However, Gateshead equalised on 36 minutes as Chapman collected a loose ball and drove towards the box before finding the bottom left corner from the edge of the penalty area.

Moors won a penalty on 75 minutes after Radcliffe handled a corner from the left which prevented Alex Whitmore from heading the ball towards goal.

However, Wilkinson blazed the resulting spot kick over the crossbar as the hosts missed the chance to reclaim the lead.

And Gateshead punished Moors four minutes later as Radcliffe forced the ball into the net via the underside of the crossbar following an almighty scramble in the box.

Solihull are next in action against Wealdstone on Saturday, March 14 with kick-off at 12.30pm at Grosvenor Vale.
