ANDY Whing questioned the ‘desire’ of his Solihull Moors following a shock FA Trophy third round exit at home to Radcliffe.

A howler from Moors goalkeeper Laurie Walker in injury time saw the National League North side claim a shock 2-1 victory at Damson Park.

That came after Kian Ryley fired Solihull ahead in the first half only for Scott Duxbury to draw the visitors level before Luca Navarro struck in injury time to leave the home side stunned.

And while Whing admits Moors are struggling for confidence in defence, the Solihull boss insists the standard of his side’s performance has to improve.

Whing said: “Ultimately, it’s very disappointing and nowhere near good enough.

“A lot of players are knocking on my door wanting to be in the team but it just shows the majority are nowhere near it.

“On that evidence, they are miles away from it, I can’t accept performances like that, we looked naive.

“We didn’t show any sort of desire to go and win the game, that’s the most hurtful thing, the desire wasn’t there to run around, win tackles, score goals and be brave.

“The confidence of players at the back end isn’t great at the minute, the goal at the end, he’s [Laurie Walker] is very short of confidence, in his sleep he’d save that.

“When you’re low on confidence, thing like that happen at the end.

“We didn’t play to the conditions, we didn’t do the right things, there was no urgency, we didn’t deserve to win the game.”

Solihull broke the deadlock after just 12 minutes when Ryley’s low shot from Matty Warburton’s cutback found the net.

However, the visitors drew level three minutes before half time as Duxbury lashed a sensational effort over Walker and into the net via the aid of the crossbar from 25-yards out.

With the game heading to penalties, Navarro’s free-kick from 20-yards out went through the hands of Walker in the second minute of injury time to send Moors out of the competition.

Solihull are next in action against Aldershot Town on Tuesday, December 10 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Damson Park.
