MATT Taylor admits Solihull Moors need more quality in the final third after drawing 1-1 away at Wealdstone.
Taylor left the Stones to replace Andy Whing as Moors head coach and picked up his first point as Solihull boss at his former stomping ground.
Wealdstone broke the deadlock after just four minutes courtesy of Alex Reid’s strike only for Alex Whitmore to draw Moors level on the stroke of half time at Grosvenor Vale.
The result leaves Solihull ninth in the National League table, outside of the play-off places on goal difference, and Taylor admits his side need to be more clinical in the final third.
Taylor said: “The boys showed real character and a real desire to get back into the game, we hadn’t scored for three games leading into it.
“The players understood how important it was to continue doing the right things and to continue working hard, we will player better than that.
“It probably should have ended in a win for us but we made a mistake and good players punish you. We could have been better at times on the ball.
“I’m pleased with a point, we’ve scored, it gets us moving in the right direction, we weren’t clinical enough in the big moments.
“Now we need to work on what the best version of us looks like come the next game.
“We need to bring the same effort and the same desire but we need up our quality in the final third.”
Moors made the worst possible start as Reid finished past Killian Barrett when one-on-one with the game just four minutes old.
However, the visitors equalised moments before the break when Jamey Osborne sent a free-kick towards the back post and Whitmore’s diving header beat Luca Gunter in the Wealdstone goal.
Solihull are next in action against Oldham Athletic on Saturday, February 8 with kick-off at 3pm at Damson Park.
