ANDY Whing insists Solihull Moors must be ‘more ruthless’ following a frustrating 1-1 draw with Wealdstone.

Despite James Gale putting Moors in front an Alex Whitmore own goal denied Moors all three points at Damson Park.

And Moors boss Whing wants his players to be more clinical after spurning a number of chances against Wealdstone before the visitors scored their equaliser.

Whing said: “This season has been frustrating, there’s no excuse, we should be winning these games, we’ve got to be better and more clinical.

“We weren’t clinical enough in the first half, we played some really good football but then we came out in the second half like a bag of rubbish.

“All they had was a 10-minute spell, they had one chance and scored, we’ve had countless chances to go and win the game, it’s just really frustrating.

“We’re not getting the points on the board, we have to be ruthless, we controlled and dominated the game.

“We’re chasing the game, we’ve got to be a hell of a lot more ruthless in terms of killing teams off when we’re on top.

“It’s a very tough game, Forest Green have got a League Two/League One squad but we don’t fear anybody in this league.

“We have to let this frustration be a positive for us going forward, we have to be mentally ready.”

Moors had the first chance of the game as Conor Wilkinson saw his effort from the edge of the penalty area deflect narrowly past the post.

Solihull skipper Jamey Osborne then powered a low shot towards goal which Archie Matthews tipped behind for a corner.

At the other end, Laurie Walker kept out Micah Obiero’s shot at his near post before Matthews denied Wilkinson later in the half.

Moors spurned another chance after winning possession deep in the Wealdstone half only for Osborne to see his shot deflect behind.

The home side eventually broke the deadlock on 41 minutes when Gale headed in Osborne’s free-kick from the left from six-yards out.

However, the visitors equalised on 56 minutes as Whitmore inadvertently deflected Enzio Boldewijn’s cross from the right into his own net.

Moors looked to respond as Gale found the side netting before Matthews got down well to push another Gale header to safety.

Wealdstone almost stole the points late on as Walker reacted quickly to keep out Callum McFarlane’s effort from eight-yards out.

However, Moors created one final chance in injury time as Sam Bowen saw his goalbound effort deflected behind at the death.

Solihull are next in action at home to Forest Green Rovers on Saturday, September 7 with kick-off at 3pm at Damson Park.
