MATT Taylor does not want his Solihull Moors players to shy away from the pressure following a 1-0 defeat at Woking in midweek.
Taylor is yet to pick up his first win since his appointment as Moors head coach last month as Matt Ward’s header condemned Solihull to defeat at Kingfield Stadium.
The result leaves Moors 12th in the National League table, 10 points outside of the play-off places having failed to win any of their last seven matches.
And Taylor feels his young players are not showing enough killer instinct in the key areas of the pitch in the absence of a number of influential figures.
Taylor said: “It’s too much of the same story, it’s a narrow defeat, we started the game really well, we had a gameplan in terms of areas we felt we could exploit, we put balls into those areas but didn’t have somebody on the end of them.
“We’ve dominated the ball without creating too many clear-cut chances and that’s a story of where we are right now, we made one error, we didn’t play with enough purpose in the really big moments.
“The overriding feeling from me is, if you look at the top of the pitch and where we want our boys to be killers, we’re relying on players at the start of their football journey and that is going to be difficult.
“We’ve got too many of our really influential players that aren’t available which hurts any team at any level.
“We weren’t at the level we needed to be at to win a game in the National League. We’re not getting the results that we want.
“It’s not bad luck, we’ve got to be better, if we’re not going to score loads of goals then we’ve got to keep clean sheets.
“We can’t shy away from the pressure and the disappointment, we need to be better, that’s the only way you start picking up results.”
The game’s only goal came on 18 minutes as Ward headed Frank Vincent’s cross from the left into the top-left corner from 10-yards out.
Solihull are next in action against Gateshead on Saturday, February 22 with kick-off at 3pm at Damson Park.
